Philip Johnson’s Glass House located in New Canaan, CT has been an inspiration for us here at Studio Hill since the beginning. The Glass House was built in 1948-49 and is now one of the most historic house museums here in CT. The house is a very early example of the use of industrial materials such as glass and steel in home design.
Here at Studio Hill, one of our goals is to build an homage to the original Glass House as a place where artists can create unique works, where art showings can take place, and where the public can enjoy concerts of all kinds surrounded by the beautiful nature that is Woodbury, CT.
Much like Johnson’s Glass House, Studio Hill aspires to have a serene stone path leading up to the glass building, which will sit atop a modest grassy hill behind the main gallery and book nook located on Main Street. Our glass house will present a calm and clean atmosphere to all visitors, with an accepting essence for all forms of art and from artists from all walks of life.
We wish to one day create a space of tranquility and artistic freedom here at Studio Hill with our rendition of the Glass House. We hope that our community will support us in this endeavor and accept us as a go-to art gallery and concert venue for the beloved art crowd here in Connecticut.
