Southbury and New York City artist joins invited NYC artists and colleagues for a timely conversation alongside his exhibition, Neon & Words.

Studio Hill Gallery will host an Artist Discussion with Southbury, Connecticut, and New York City artist Andrew Chin and invited New York City artists and colleagues on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Studio Hill Gallery, 507 Main St S, Woodbury, Connecticut. The discussion will explore the current state of the world and the role art can play in shaping public perspective.

Studio Hill Gallery is proud to present an Artist Talk with Andrew Chin in conjunction with his exhibition, Neon & Words, on view from July 4 to August 15, 2026. The exhibition examines the complexity of contemporary life through Mr. Chin’s handmade neon lighting sculptures, paintings, and word art.

Internationally acclaimed artist Andrew Chin has been an active presence in the New York City and Connecticut art scenes for more than 45 years. Educated at the San Francisco Art Institute and NYU, Mr. Chin moved from the West Coast to Manhattan in the late 1970s. Since 1984, he has been a member and resident of the National Arts Club in Gramercy Park.

While exhibiting his work in Manhattan galleries during the 1980s, Mr. Chin was introduced to Larry Aldrich, who invited him to participate in one of his early exhibitions at the Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut. That opportunity led Mr. Chin and his family to relocate first to Ridgefield and later to Southbury, where he has lived for more than 30 years. He now divides his time between Manhattan and Southbury.

Under the leadership of Aldon James, who served as president of the National Arts Club for 25 years, Mr. Chin’s work gained international recognition. He has exhibited throughout Europe and Asia and has maintained gallery representation in Beijing, China, as well as in the United States.

Mr. Chin is known for his unconventional artistic approach. His deeply personal work resonates with a broad audience, and Studio Hill Gallery is honored to present it.

Annual Holiday Group Art Show & 5th Anniversary

Studio Hill Gallery, 507 Main ST S, Woodbury, will be presenting its Annual Holiday Group Art Show featuring the works of over 20 local artists including Melody Asbury, Theresa Bates, James Carter, Annachiara Chacchia,  Vincent Giarrano, Cynthia Gillette, Tracy Hambley, Helga Hechiane, James Hinkle, Susan Kapilow, Jan Kasle, John Kildahl, Mike LaChioma, Susan Lerner, Amber Maida, Marla Thornington Martin, Scott Martin, Polly Miller, Lora Noyes, Viktoria Stockmal, Brian Walter II, and Matt Wood.

The show opens on Friday December 12, 2025, and will run through Sunday January 11, 2026. An Opening Reception to meet the artists will take place on Friday December 12th, from 5p.m. to 8p.m.

Studio Hill Gallery will also be celebrating its 5th Anniversary on December 12th during the Opening Reception. The public is invited to visit the Gallery, meet the artists at the Holiday show, enjoy some refreshments and then do some holiday gift shopping.

The Design Shop will be set up for the Holidays featuring handmade ornaments and prints by local artists, artisan-made gifts such as jewelry, blown-glassware, and ornaments, as well as children’s books, and books by local authors, handmade European works of art such as handmade nativities and angels from Italy and German wood pyramids, smokers, nutcrackers, and other unique gifts. There is something for everyone.

FUNDRASING FOR A CAUSE

Woodbury, CT - Studio Hill Gallery, located at 507 Main St S in Woodbury, will host a special art event, Fundraising for a Cause, to benefit the family of Woodbury artist Matt Wood. This fundraiser aims to support Matt’s family as they face the challenges of a battle with metastatic cancer. The funds raised will assist with medical bills, daily expenses, and enable Matt to dedicate time to caring for his family, attending doctor appointments, and being with his loved ones during treatments.

To encourage support, we are offering a 20% discount on sales of Matt’s artwork during the event. We ask for your generosity in helping Matt and supporting the arts in Woodbury and Litchfield County.

The event will kick off online, via the website, on Friday, April 18th, and run through Sunday, May 4th, 2025. A special in-person “pop-up” event, where you can meet the artist, will take place on Saturday, May 3rd, from 2 PM to 6 PM.

Artist Statement: Vincent Giarrano

Vincent Giarrano's work captures the quiet moments and intimate spaces that reflect the essence of everyday life, both within the home and out in the city. His paintings are an exploration of the beauty found in the ordinary, focusing on the subtle details that often go unnoticed. He is fascinated by the interplay of light and shadow, the textures of urban landscapes, and the character of interior settings.

Giarrano's subjects are often individuals absorbed in their environments, portrayed in a way that emphasizes their personal narratives and the spaces they inhabit. Through a realist approach, he aims to convey a sense of presence and immediacy, inviting viewers to connect with the depicted scenes on a personal level.

Interior Landscape of the Self

Woodbury - Studio Hill Gallery, 507 Main ST S, Woodbury, will host an Opening Reception for a new art show “Interior Landscape of the Self”, featuring works by Roxbury, Ct artist Theresa Bates.  

Roxbury, CT visual artist Theresa Bates created this body of work over the past year, 2023-2024. A year of much change and introspection.  She began each piece loosely sketching versions of herself in charcoal. Then created environments with colorful patterns in acrylic paint and collage papers to add more texture.  “I intentionally left my figures faceless, symbolic of leaving off the masks I wear into the world”, explained Theresa. “This helped me create a safe place to freely express my deepest emotions, and travel to my inner landscape of self. It truly was a cathartic journey.”  Meet Theresa during the opening reception from 5p-7p and see her vast and diverse body of work, large and small.

 Theresa Bates is an artist, educator, and yoga instructor, currently living and working in CT and NY. Her inspiration has many facets, nature being one facet and for this work, introspection.  After graduating from SUNY Purchase and The Art Students League in NYC, Theresa pursued a career in the arts. Her mixed media paintings have been shown in many wonderful venues throughout NYC and the Tri-State area. Her work can be found in private collections throughout the United Sates and Europe.

The show opens on Saturday June 22nd and will run through Sunday August 10, 2024. An Opening Reception to meet the artist will take place on Saturday June 22nd, from 5pm to 7pm.

Saving the Planet, One Art Masterpiece at a Time

Studio Hill Gallery, 507 Main ST S, Woodbury, will be presenting a new art series titled, “Saving the Planet, One Art Masterpiece at a Time”. The series will begin with an exploration of the effects of human activities on climate change in the Arctic waters.  

Woodbury, CT artist Matt Wood will be collaborating with Studio Hill Gallery in a multimedia show featuring Wood’s landscapes, iceberg series, photography, and contemporary abstract works along with video installations to bring awareness of the devastation to the Arctic ecosystems. Human activities of tourism, mining, shipping, and overfishing will be explored.

The show opens on Saturday February 3rd and will run through Sunday March 17, 2024. An Opening Reception to meet the artist will take place on Saturday February 3rd, from 3pm to 6pm.
